끊임없이 전투 중인 그 곳 온건 팔레스타인 단체하고는 협상 중이지만 극렬 테러단체들과는 끝날 줄 모르는 주고 받기 공격들, 그 가운데 희생되는 사람들
안타까운 마음을 금할 길이 없군요.

Israeli Air, Ground Attacks on Gaza Kill At Least 9 Palestinians
가자 지구에 이스라엘이 공습과 지상 공격을 가함으로 적어도 9명의 팔레스타인이 죽다.

At least three Palestinian gunmen and four civilians have been killed in Israeli raids in the Gaza Strip. As Robert Berger reports from VOA's Jerusalem bureau, there has been an escalation of military activity on both sides.

Israeli warplanes launched a wave of air strikes on the Gaza Strip, backing up tanks and infantry on the ground. In one incident, Palestinians say an Israeli tank shell hit a house, killing an Islamic Jihad militant, his mother and 19-year-old sister. Israel aircraft also hit two Islamic Jihad targets in Gaza City bringing angry crowds onto the streets.

Israel said the raids were in response to Palestinian rocket attacks on Israeli border communities.
"It must be remembered that the civilian population in the south has been the target of rocket barrage after rocket barrage, day after day, week after week, month after month. This cannot continue," said government spokesman Mark Regev.

During the fighting Thursday, Palestinians fired a rocket at the major Israeli coastal city of Ashkelon. It flew more than 16 kilometers, one of the longest distances ever for a Palestinian rocket. Until now, only small towns and farming communities have been within range of Palestinian rockets.

Islamic Jihad and another militant group, the Popular Resistance Committees, claimed joint responsibility for the rocket attack.
Islamic Jihad official Ahmed Houry said the group would use all means at its disposal to strike at Israel.

이스라엘은 이번 공격이 이스라엘 국경 공동체들에 행한 팔레스타인 로켓 공격에 대한 보응이었다고 말한다.
”기억되어야 할 것은 남부에 있는 민간인들은 로켓공격 후에 계속되는 로켓 공격의 목표물이 되어왔다는 점이다. 이것은 계속할 수 없다. ” 마크 레거 정부 대변인은 말했다.

그 전투중인 목요일 동안에 팔레스타인들은 중요한 이스라엘의 해안 도시인 애스클런에 로켓탄을 발사했다. 그것은 16킬로미터나 넘게 날아갔고 지금까지 팔레스타인 로켓탄에 있어 가장 멀리 날아간 거리 중의 하나였다.

끝날 줄 모르는 논쟁과 싸움..언제쯤 끝날까?

오늘은 이스라엘과 팔레스타인 사이의 평화협상에 관련된 내용을 올립니다.
중동의 화약고 이스라엘과 팔레스타인, 참 어제 올렸던 글과 관련이 있는 파키스탄에서
전 총리였던 부토 여사가 총선을 앞두고 자살폭탄테러에 의해 사망했다는 소식이 들어와 있네요. 삼가 고인의 명복을 빕니다.

Olmert, Abbas Meet in Jerusalem to Advance Peace Talks
오마르와 바스는 평화협상을 진전시키기 위해 예루살렘에서 만나다.

Israeli and Palestinian leaders held a summit meeting today in Jerusalem in a bid to advance the Middle East peace process. As Robert Berger reports from VOA's Jerusalem bureau, the talks were overshadowed by a dispute over Jewish settlement construction.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas held their first meeting since they agreed to resume peace talks at the Annapolis Conference in the United States a month ago. The summit took place in a sour atmosphere, after Israel decided to build more than 300 homes in the Jewish neighborhood of Har Homa in disputed East Jerusalem. The neighborhood is built on land the Palestinians claim for a future state.

Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat says the construction violates the internationally-backed "roadmap" peace plan on which the negotiations are based.

"The main point is we're urging the Israeli side to stop all settlement activities including natural growth, in order to give peace the chance it deserves," he said.

Israel says the roadmap does not apply to the Jewish neighborhoods of East Jerusalem because they will remain a part of the country in any final peace agreement.
"And obviously when we have these meetings, the Palestinian side brings its concerns to the table, we bring our concerns to the table and the idea is to try to find common ground," said Israeli spokesman Mark Regev.

But there is little common ground on the settlement issue. The dispute underscores how hard it will be to achieve the goal of Annapolis: a final peace agreement by the end of next year.

그 인근 지역은 장래의 국가를 위한 팔레스타인들이 주장한 땅이다.

팔레스타인 협상자인 사압 에리캇는 그 건설은 협상의 기초가 되는 국제적인 지원을 받는 평화안 “로드맵”을 저버리는 것이라고 말한다.

”중요한 것은 우리는 기회가 있을 때 평화를 제공하기 위해서는 이스라엘 측이 자연적 증가를 포함한 모든 정착 활동들을 중단하기를 촉구하고 있다는 점이라고 그는 말한다.

이스라엘은 그 로드맵은 동예루살렘의 유대인 거주지역에 적용하지 않는다고 말하며 그 이유는 그들은 어떠한 최종적인 평화 협정 속에서도 그 나라의 한 부분으로 남아있을 것이기 때문이라고 하였다.

이스라엘 대변인인 마크 레고는 “분명히 우리가 이러한 회동을 가질 때, 팔레스타인측은 그런 관심사를 협상테이블로 가져오고 우리도 우리의 관심사를 가져오고 요점은 공통점을 발견하도록 노력하는 것”이라고 말했다.

그러나 정착문제에 있어서는 거의 공통점이 없다. 그 논쟁은 애나폴리스의 목표, 즉 올해 말까지 결정적인 평화협상을 성취하는 것이 얼마나 어려운 것인가를 분명히 나타낸다.

오늘은 긴장이 증대되고 있는 팔레스타인 지역에서의 하마스가 이스라엘에게 휴전을 제안했다는 내용인데 이스라엘은 콧방귀도 안뀌고 모든 걸 끝내겠다고 의지를 보이고 있군요.

The Islamic militant group Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, is seeking a cease-fire with Israel. But Israel has rejected the offer, as we hear from Robert Berger at the VOA bureau in Jerusalem.

Israel Radio says Hamas is drafting terms for a truce and trying to get other Palestinian factions to halt rocket attacks on Israel. Hamas did not comment on the report, but it first offered a truce earlier this week after Israeli air strikes killed 13 Palestinian militants, including two top commanders of the Islamic Jihad group.

Israel says Hamas is only seeking a cease-fire, because it is taking a beating from the army.

"Hamas is a hostile entity, so we are not going to relate to any of Hamas' proposals," said Defense Ministry official David Hacham.

Rocket attacks on Israeli border communities have escalated since Hamas routed the Fatah forces of Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas from Gaza six months ago.  In response, Israel has tightened crippling economic sanctions on Gaza, and, recently, it has stepped up air raids and ground incursions.

Hacham says the truce offer is too little, too late.

"Israel will not suffer these terrorist actions," he said.  "And, I think, we are going to see in the future more military operations, in order to put an end to this phenomenon from the Palestinian side."

Even if Hamas wants a truce, it may have a hard time bringing other militant factions on board. The Islamic Jihad, which has been hit hard in the recent fighting, said it is not time for a cease-fire, but rather, for revenge.

6개월 전 가자에서 서방의 지원을 받는 마흐무라 바스 팔레스타인 대통령의 파타군을 몰아낸 이후 이스라엘 국경지대 집단들에 대한 로켓 공격이 단계적으로 확대되었다. 이에 대한 대응으로 이스라엘은 가자에 대한 강력한 경제적 제재를 강화해왔고 최근에 공습과 지상군 침투가 증대되어왔다.

하함은 그 휴전 제안이 너무 기대에 못 미치고, 너무 늦었다고 말한다.

”이스라엘은 이러한 테러리스트들의 행동을 참지 않을 것이다”라고 그는 말한다.
”그리고, 내가 생각하기에 우리는 팔레스타 지역의 이러한 사건들을 끝내기 위해서 장차 추가적인 군사행동을 보여줄 예정이다.”

비록 하마스가 휴전을 원하지만 다른 군사 파벌들을 위원회로 데려오는 데 홍역을 치를지도 모른다. 최근 전투에서 심각한 타격을 입은 이슬람 지하드는 휴전을 할 때가 아니고 오히려 복수를 할 때라고 말했다.

오늘은 일요일이라 쉴까 하다가 짧은 글을 올려봅니다.
2차 세계 대전이 끝난지 거의 60여년이 다 되어가는데 그동안 동,서독의 통합과
소련의 붕괴, 중국 뎡사오핑의 자본주의의 도입, 일본의 군사대국화, 북한의 핵개발 등 세계적으로 굵직굵직한 일들이 많이 발생해 왔습니다.

향후 제 3차 대전이 일어날 가능성이 가장 높은 곳을 2 곳만 얘기해보라고 하면
대체로 우리나라를 포함한 극동 지역과 이스라엘 대 이슬람 국가들이 뭉쳐있는
4대 문명의 발생지기도 한 메소포타미야 부근, 지금은 이란, 이라크, 이스라엘, 이집트, 시리아 등의 지역이라고들 합니다.

2 곳 중의 한  곳인 이스라엘과 미국을 포함한 온건파 팔레스타인 정부 대 이슬람 과격 무장단체인 하마스와 관련된 내용이며 이 지역에서 긴장이 고조되고 있는
상황입니다.

Tens of Thousands of Palestinians Rally for Hamas in Gaza

The Islamic militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip has put on a show of strength. As Robert Berger reports from VOA's Jerusalem bureau, Hamas is sending a tough message of opposition to Israeli-Palestinian peace talks which resumed this week after a seven-year break.

Chanting "Allah is great," tens of thousands of Palestinians gathered in Gaza City to mark the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Islamic militant group Hamas.

It was a defiant show of support, even though Gaza has plunged further into poverty under Hamas rule and there are shortages of food, raw materials and fuel. Hamas has been crippled by Israeli and international sanctions since it violently seized control of Gaza six months ago.

Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh told the crowd that the group will never renounce violence or recognize Israel.

Mr. Haniyeh said jihad, or holy war, is the shortest way to liberate Palestine and Jerusalem. He also condemned the Annapolis peace conference in the United States, where western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas agreed to resume peace talks with Israel.

Hamas routed the Fatah forces of Mr. Abbas from Gaza in June, and now he heads a more moderate government in the West Bank.

Mr. Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert have agreed to try and reach a final peace treaty by the end of next year, but Hamas poses a major obstacle. At Annapolis, Mr. Olmert said Israel would not agree to a Palestinian state unless it includes Gaza under the control of Palestinian moderates.

By bringing a huge crowd into the streets, Hamas has shown it is a force to reckon with and that it intends to remain in power.

아니폴리스에서 올메르트 총리는 만약 가자가 팔레스타인 자치정부의 통제하에 있는 것이 포함되지 않는다면 이스라엘은 팔레스타인을 국가로 인정하는데 동의하지 않을 것이다고 말했다.

거리로 수많은 군중들이 모임으로써, 하마스는 그것이 기대할 수 있는 힘이며 체제를 유지할 수 있는 바탕임을 증명했다.
